I like the cover on this - it uses elements from the book to create the cover, such as the snake on the key; the snakes are a decorative piece on a key which is used in the story.  I like how pleasing it is on the eye, and it was the cover which drew me to the book in the first place.

Jalen's Nina always took her to have her horoscope read every year on her birthday.  This year Jalen goes with Ellie, her best friend, as her Nan is in hospital seriously ill with cancer.  Jalen has always humored her gran, but she doesn’t believe in all that stuff. So when her friend pays for a chain bound book, little does she realise that soon she will be fighting to put things back how they were and return the world into balance before anything bad happens permanently.

Jalen gets to meet each figure in the zodiac as she fights to restore balance.  I really enjoyed each of their personality traits and challenges they brought to Jalen and her friends to solve.  Henry was a bit irritating, but in a fun way - if I had to describe him, he would be one of the characters out of The Vicar of Dibley, lol....we don't really find out what his purpose is until near the end.

I found Gemini and how she kept popping up everywhere highly annoying after the first tine, and couldn’t help wondering if she was a mischief maker.  One of the characters had "breath that smelt pink"...that had me miffed, lol.

My favourite quote from The 13th Sign is..
"Believing doesn't mean having all the answers - just the opposite.  Believing is having none of the answers and going forward anyway"

The only thing this is missing is romance, but to be honest I don't think that’s a bad thing.  I would quite happily give this to our 10year old read, and because it’s based on astrological signs with action scenes, he might just read it!

I found this to be an easy read and I love the plot twist towards the end.  It's very simple, yet very touching and unexpected.

Book synopsis:
What if there was a 13th zodiac sign?
You’re no longer Sagittarius, but Ophiuchus, the healer, the 13th sign.
Your personality has changed. So has your mom’s and your best friend’s.
What about the rest of the world?
What if you were the one who accidentally unlocked the 13th sign, causing this world-altering change—and infuriating the other 12 signs?
Jalen did it, and now she must use every ounce of her strength and cunning to send the signs back where they belong. Lives, including her own, depend on it.
