The cover on this is eye catching, with a really bright star effect symbol, and ants marching around it.
Jack and Jaide are twins and know nothing of the secret powers which is their heritage. The twins accidently use their powers and ultimately their house is blown to pieces, almost killing them and their parents in the process. This world tilting discovery means they have to go stay with their Grandma, known to them as Grandma x, although they've never met her before.
The relationship between the twins is close. I found this book a bit frustrating because the twins don't get much help in trying to work out what their powers are or help in how to use them effectively, so the story is mostly about them trying to do what they think is best, which brings severe consequences. It isn't until the latter portion of the book that they start to work together and touch on their skills to work out how to change things.
Maybe I'm a wimp, but I found some of this scary!! Crawling rodents massing to make an army in the form of a person just gives me the creeps, so for some of this I'm sure I was reading with my eyes half shut; as I wanted to know what was happening...but the descriptions just had my skin crawling <shudder>!
Overall towards the end the characters saw a lot more action and I found it hard to resist turning the page, so I'm glad I stuck through the scarier parts!
