 Rating 5/5

The cover on this is really vibrant, bright and eye catching for a graphic comic.  Our eldest reviewer thoroughly enjoyed this, he loves comics and this one was no exception.  I would recommend this as a first comic or as a living educational read.  Shaun reads a lot of comics, this one in contrast doesn't have as much dialogue, and the illustrations are far bigger than his other comics, a huge bonus that I'm pleased with, is unlike his other comics this one doesn't use capitalisation all the way through, which adds to the rating we gave it.

A Roman Rescue has a notebook which includes facts and sketches about ancient Rome.  Teacher's notes support KS1 & KS2, so this could be used in conjunction with the National Curriculum or as part of a history lapbook.  As a family our favorite books are Magic Tree house ones, where history and adventure come alive.  A Roman Rescue is a fantastic addition along a similar theme, and is certainly on par - the defining element being is that it is a comic and is sure to be re-read by boys!  A Roman Rescue is the first in a series of graphic comics, following Charlie and Bandit on their time traveling adventures.

Book synopsis:
Charlie and his dog Bandit, accidentally fall into a sink hole and are transported back to ancient Rome.  Luckily Charlie makes friends with a young Roman buy named Cosmo and they go on to win a chariot race before Charlie returns home.

Source - with thanks to Templar for allowing us to review this for them.
